MeasurementsMeasure the area to be tiled
Tip: Regular Kitchens are approximately - 4m², Bathrooms (if tiled around the bath only) - 6m², Showers (if tiled around the tray only) - 8m². For accurate figure you still need to measure the area.
Decide what size of tiles you want in mm (millimetres)
Tip: tile 100x100, see picture below how to recognise the size.
Cost of materialsCalculate tile amounts
You may use this
tool for easier way of doing it, or you may calculate it manually by following these instructions:
If the actual area to be tiled is 4m², size of tiles 200x200, firstly you need to work out how many square metres has 1 tile. in this case 1 tile of 200mm = 0.20cm x 0.20cm = 0.04m², Now 4m² ÷ 0.04m² = 100 tiles + 10% (see explanation) = 110 tiles need buying. Explanation: Tile batches can vary in colour so purchase 10% extra tile to cover accidental breakages and repairs. Tip: tiler should only charge you for fixing 100 tiles, not 110
Calculate adhesive usage
We strongly advice you to check manufacture set figures, wall status should be taken into account, as if there any preparation needs to be done prior to tiling most of times you will be able to save money and time by buying more adhesive and let the tiler to make good rather than calling plasterer unless tiler requests for one due to lack of his skills. Our tilers can prepare the surface for them selves! Our current adhesive usage (from practice using 6mm trowel on domestic premises): 1 LITRE per 0.8m² or by amount of tiles according to size. 100x100 = 1 LITRE per 80 tiles

Calculate grout usage
A useful guide to calculating the requirements of grout for any tiling installation is as follows.
Our current grout usage using 150x150 x 6mm with 2mm joint tiles = 320g per 1 square metre.
Example:
| Area to be tiled: | Kitchen |
| Measurements: | 4m² |
| Size of tiles: | 330x330 |
| Price per square metre: | £25/m² |
| Labour cost: | £25/m² x 4m² | £100.00 |
| Chosen tiles: | Ceramic Gloss White |
| Cost of tiles (£6.00/m² x 4m² + 10%) | £6.00/m² | £26.40 |
| Cost of adhesive: | 5 Litres | £8.00 |
| Cost of grout: | £6.93 | £6.93 |
| Total: | £141.33 |
To calculate your own costs, simply follow these steps: (Measurements) x (price per square metre) = Your premium for works + Cost of Materials = TOTAL TILING COST.
